At Northern Energy, our drivers are fortunate to traverse some of the most scenic landscapes in the North of England while delivering heating oil and LPG to off-grid homes. Their routes offer breathtaking views and visits to historic landmarks, making each trip more than just a delivery—it’s an adventure. Here, we share some of our drivers' favourite spots, accompanied by local fun facts and a touch of history, highlighting our longstanding presence and continued high-level of service in these areas.
Ribblehead Viaduct, Cumbria
Nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, the Ribblehead Viaduct is an iconic structure with 24 majestic arches spanning 400 metres. It’s a testament to Victorian engineering and is part of the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which offers one of the most scenic train journeys in the UK. Our drivers often pass by this awe-inspiring landmark en route to the charming villages while delivering LPG in Cumbria.

Fun Fact: The Ribblehead Viaduct construction, which started in 1870, saw over 1,000 workers and their families live in makeshift camps around the site. Many of them stayed and contributed to the local communities even after the viaduct’s completion.
Our aim is to make sure that every one of our customers knows that we put them first. And it’s been the same since we first started bringing LPG to the people of Carlisle, Penrith, and the surrounding Northern Lake District. Because as a family-run business, we know how important it is to have a reliable supply of LPG from someone you know and trust.
Newstead Abbey, Nottinghamshire
The picturesque Newstead Abbey, once home to the poet Lord Byron, is a favourite among our drivers when delivering LPG to Nottinghamshire. The Abbey’s stunning gardens, lakes, and waterfalls make it a perfect spot for a peaceful break.

Fun Fact: Newstead Abbey was originally a monastic house before being converted into a stately home after the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Lord Byron, one of Britain’s greatest poets, lived here in the early 19th century.
We’ve proudly served Nottinghamshire’s communities for many years, from Mansfield to Newark-On-Trent, providing dependable Heating Oil and LPG supplies with excellent customer service.
Nidderdale, North Yorkshire
Nidderdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offers some of the most breathtaking vistas in North Yorkshire. Our delivery routes through this region often involve navigating narrow, winding country roads, which open up to expansive views of rolling hills and serene valleys.

Fun Fact: Nidderdale is home to the Nidderdale Way, a 53-mile circular walk that takes you through stunning landscapes, charming villages, and various historical sites.
Established over 90 years ago in Hampsthwaite, Northern Energy has been delivering LPG across North Yorkshire, ensuring warmth and comfort for homes and businesses alike. Now in its fourth generation, our family-owned company will be moving to Limebar Lane near Marton-Cum-Grafton in the near future, reaffirming our commitment to North Yorkshire’s community and landscape. As we expand, our values—summed up as C.A.R.E (Commitment, Authenticity, Respect, Excellence)—continue to guide us, ensuring reliable service and genuine care for our customers across the county.
The Northumberland Coast AONB, Northumberland
Our routes in Northumberland wind through the picturesque Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), known for its stunning beaches, rugged cliffs, and historic castles such as Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne Castle. This coastal area offers our drivers breathtaking views and a glimpse into Northumberland's rich maritime heritage. The Northumberland Coast AONB is home to one of the longest continuous stretches of sandy coastline in England, making it a haven for wildlife and a paradise for beach lovers.

Fun Fact: Northumberland is known for having more castles than any other county in England, reflecting its turbulent history as a border region.
With over 90 years of service, we have deep ties to Northumberland. Our drivers are familiar faces in rural areas surrounding towns like Hexham and Morpeth, known for their friendly service and reliability as they deliver LPG to Northumberland residents.
Anywhere else?
Our routes around the North of England are adorned with cultural and historical landmarks, and our drivers often pass by many in one day across various counties. The imposing Angel of the North in Newcastle and the serene Scar House Reservoir in North Yorkshire are two more must see spots.
- Angel of the North: This modern sculpture by Antony Gormley stands 20 metres tall with a wingspan of 54 metres, welcoming drivers as they head north. It’s a symbol of the region’s rich industrial heritage and contemporary art.
- Scar House Reservoir: A tranquil spot, the reservoir offers beautiful views and is a popular place for walkers and nature lovers. It’s a refreshing sight for our drivers delivering LPG in the region.
