A career in customer service

Our Customer Service roles are office-based and involve much more than answering calls. You'll handle emails, support customers, and get involved in the administration of LPG contracts.

As Gracie, our Customer Service Administrator, explains, one of the key skills needed is to be sociable – ‘we do a lot of talking’. With a wide range of customers, most of whom are lovely and friendly, our customer service-based work involves chatting to lots of customers, building relationships, and communicating well as an organisation.

When asked what she likes about working at Northern Energy, Gracie said ‘It’s amazing. The staff are lovely, and there's usually something going on, whether it's a fundraising Christmas jumper day, or a social event. It’s a great environment, it's fun, and every day is different. Plus we get so many benefits’.

Mechanic

As our garage manager Lenny says, working in the garage is all about hands-on experience and every day is different. Mainly based in the garage, one day you can be doing a service, the next repairing a truck. You may also be called out on the road to attend a breakdown. Qualifications to work towards include IRTEC HGV qualification and mechanic qualifications.

One thing is for sure: whatever the weather, you’ll get your hands dirty every day!

You’ll support drivers and liaise with office staff, routers and parts suppliers. Patience and general computer skills are required combined with problem solving skills and a hardworking attitude - and of course a good dose of common sense.

Engineering

What does a normal day in the world of engineering look like? Well, you jump in a van, drive to a job, install a tank and pipework, tidy up, and drive back. No two jobs are the same: it could be a little old lady’s home, a massive manufacturing site, or a pub, and the weather can be varied too – it’s definitely all-weather work!

To be a fully qualified LPG engineer, you’ll need your LPG Gas tickets (vessels, pipework, meters etc.), Gas Safe Registration and even a HGV licence so you can drive a wagon or the company’s Hiab.

One things for sure, it’s a fun environment, everyone gets along, and we all work as a team.
