Careers at Northern Energy

Trainee Engineer

Due to our expanding business, we are looking for a keen individual to help support our team of gas engineers. This is a full-time permanent role and a great opportunity to join our team.

Northern Energy is a family-friendly company based in Hampsthwaite, a small village just outside of Harrogate. Our aim is to serve local communities in the North of England with domestic, commercial and agricultural oil and LPG. In addition, we offer various services which complement our business. We pride ourselves on exceptional customer service and by being the best in terms of service and delivery.

The hours of work are 40 per week with a significant amount of overtime. You need to be flexible in your working hours. Some days you will leave home at 6am and be back by 4pm, and sometimes you will start and finish later.

The role is based from our Hampsthwaite office, but may be moved to Boroughbridge in a couple of years. You will meet an engineer at the office and then travel around supporting them.

This is a physically demanding role, with the majority of work being outside so you need to be physically fit and capable, and happy working outside. You need to be willing to learn, practical and hands on to assist with the physical duties involved in installation, uplifts and movement of LPG tanks, working with our qualified engineer with a view to learning new skills and taking them forward within the business.

After 12 months good attitude and performance, we would give you the opportunity to become a fully qualified engineer should you so wish. Typical duties would be laying pipework and assisting our engineer with the installation and movement of tanks.

Depending on skills and experience, we would be looking to pay around £10 per hour with time and a quarter for all hours worked above 40 per week.

You will receive a company pension, annual profit share and private medical and dental insurance.

All our roles require a successful DBS clearance, and you need a full driving licence.

If you are interested in joining our team, please contact Vicky Stabler at vicky.stabler@northernenergy.co.uk or write to her at Northern Energy, Energy House, Hampsthwaite, Harrogate, HG3 2HT enclosing your CV.

Due to our expanding business, we are looking for a new Gas Engineer.  This is a full-time permanent role and a great opportunity to join our team.

Our aim is to serve local communities in the North of England with domestic, commercial, and agricultural oil and LPG. In addition, we offer various services, which complement our business. We pride ourselves on exceptional customer service and by being the best in terms of service and delivery.

The role is 40 hours per week basic with a significant amount of overtime available.  We are looking for someone who can install our LPG tanks and carry out any maintenance and repairs required on them. The job is predominantly outside installing, moving and uplifting LPG tanks, not internal boiler repairs or servicing.   You would need to have a full understanding of the Gas safety legislation.

An average day for our Gas Engineer could be installing a gas tank and associated pipework at a customer’s premises or relocating an existing gas tank and altering the pipework accordingly. We also carry out regulator replacements and attend gas leaks where necessary. The work can be physically demanding at times, so you would need to be prepared to undertake this.

Your pay will be based on your skills and experience, but in the range of £16 per hour, overtime paid at £20 per hour. For someone who takes up the overtime available you would have the opportunity to earn more than £40k per year.  A company van will also be provided.

It is essential that you have your Core Gas Ticket, and desirably your LPG ticket, although not essential as we will provide training and are willing to put you through any additional courses that may be required.   You will need a minimum of 5 years gas engineering experience.

This role covers a large area so you will be based from home.  Ideally the successful candidate will be within 30 miles of Wetherby.
