We wanted to let you know that you can now save Northern Energy's 'My Account' to your phone – just like you would with an app.
That’s because 'My Account' is available as a progressive web app (PWA). In this blog, we’re going to explain what a PWA is, and tell you how to go about adding My Account to your mobile phone’s home screen.
So, what exactly is a PWA?
Simply put, it's a website that behaves just like an app on your phone. PWA’s combine the best of both worlds, offering the convenience of mobile apps with the accessibility of websites, meaning it should be compatible with any device. PWA’s use modern web architecture to provide a seamless user experience, enabling you to access the 'My Account' area with just a tap on your home screen, rather than opening a mobile browser and opening the account area via a webpage.
With PWAs, you can enjoy the benefits of app-like experiences without the hassle of traditional app stores. These lightweight applications consume minimal storage space and automatically update themselves, ensuring you're always using the latest version.
Installing a PWA on your device is a breeze. Whether you're using an iOS (Apple) or Android device (Google, Sony etc), the process is fairly similar.
How do I add My Account to my mobile home screen?
Here's how you can add a PWA to your home screen:
For iOS
- Open Safari and navigate to the 'My Account' area of Northern Energy website, or go to myaccount.northernenergy.co.uk.
- Tap the "Share" icon at the bottom centre of the screen. this is the icon that looks like a box with an upwards arrow.
- Scroll down and select "Add to Home Screen".
- Customise the app's name if desired and then tap "Add" in the top right corner.
- Voila! You now have the Northern Energy PWA installed on your home screen, ready to be accessed with a single tap.
For Android
- Launch Google Chrome and navigate to the 'My Account' area of Northern Energy website, or go to myaccount.northernenergy.co.uk.
- Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- Select "Add to Home screen" from the dropdown menu.
- Review and modify the app's name if needed, then tap "Add."
- Congratulations! You have successfully installed the Northern Energy PWA on your Android device, granting you quick and easy access.
