Candlelighters is a local non-profit organisation which provides invaluable support to families of children with cancer across Yorkshire, and has been helping children with cancer and their families since 1976.
Cancer doesn’t stop for Covid-19 which is making the lives of those affected by childhood cancer more difficult than ever and is also impacting the money the charity raises to support these families. As such, the charity has launched ‘Team 500’, a group of businesses who have donated or fundraised £500 or over to fund all the additional services and support they are offering to families who are going through such a difficult time. Northern Energy is pleased to support Team 500. Managing Director, Stuart Illingworth, said “We are delighted to continue our support for Candlelighters who provide such priceless help for children and their families when they need it most. We are all operating in very challenging and uncertain times so maintaining support for causes like Candlelighters is more important than ever. Thank you for everything you do day in day out.”
On behalf of Candlelighters, Amy Harrison said “We were absolutely delighted that Northern Energy agreed to join Team 500, a team for businesses donating £500 and over to the Candlelighters appeal. Candlelighters continues to rely on generous donations of the community in order to keep our candle burning and continue to bring light to families in these darkest of times. Since lockdown began, we have introduced a whole menu of virtual support for families who have a child with cancer, as well as doubling our financial grants. It is only through the support of incredible donors like Northern Energy that we are able to continue to offer our vital support to local families who need us”
£500 could fund a course of 10 virtual talking therapy sessions for a child, which means a patient or sibling currently shielding from Coronavirus gets the time and space they need to talk about their worries, and access the mental health support they so crucially need right now.
