More than 1 in 3 people in the UK will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime.Today The Northern Energy Group proudly supports Macmillan's biggest ever fundraising event.The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is a fundraising event suggested by Macmillan Cancer Support. Alongside coffee, anyone with any baking abilities have been asked to provide cakes and buns to sell to colleagues, friends and families. Events are taking place up and down the country to raise cash for the highly valued work carried out by Macmillan.Macmillan offer practical advice, help and emotional support for people who are diagnosed with cancer.http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Home.aspxThe statistics around cancer enforce why Macmillan is needed by so many people;Despite the boost in survival rates to 50% overall on all cancers in the UK, in 2011 331,000 people were diagnosed with cancer (approximately 910 people every day).In the UK, someone is diagnosed with cancer every two minutes.Although other organisations are doing their utmost to find preventions and cures for this monstrous disease, Macmillan do their best to help sufferers cope with the strains of having the disease and managing treatment.Our keen bakers Christine, Gemma, Grace and Tracy have provided an array of the finest cookies, cupcakes, buns and waffles to tempt our busy workforce into parting with their cash. We held a competition for the best homemade treat and the number one spot went to Gemma for her succulent carrot cake.Paying into the charity box for the privilege, the staff have also been given the opportunity to have a pink themed ‘Dress-down Day’.There is a ‘Guess how many hundreds & thousands on the cake’ competition going on in the kitchen, costing £2 to enter and the winner takes the cake.The Northern Energy Group are really proud of how everybody have done their part in raising over £100. Today the staff leave the office with empty pockets but full tummy’s.
