There are two type of domestic heating oil to choose from when deciding which heating oil you need:
- Kerosene heating oil, also known as 28-second burning oil, is primarily used for home heating.
- Gas oil, also known as 35-second oil or red diesel, is usually used for commercial and agricultural purposes, although a small number of domestic oil central heating boilers do still run on it.
Both are safe, clean, and efficient. Kerosene heating oil is most commonly used for domestic boilers and it can also be supplied with a heating oil additive (Premium Heating Oil). Premium Heating Oil is slightly higher in price but is more economical, better for your boiler as it burns up to 15% more efficiently, and is more environmentally friendly. It also comes with carbon offsetting, as we automatically off-set your fuel with every order of Premium Heating oil.
Whatever type of heating oil you need, i.e. whether you use kerosene heating oil or gas oil, depends on the system installed in your house, so it’s important to look at the labels on your central heating oil tank and oil boiler.
Then there's HVO (Hydrotreated vegetable Oil), a new renewable fuel and an ideal greener choice, which is a low carbon alternative to traditional home heating oil and made from certified sustainable waste materials. And the good news is we're looking forward to supplying HVO sometime soon.
