General LPG

No - LPG is here to stay!

Initially, the outgoing Conservative government was proposing to phase out fossil fuels such as LPG in 2026, but in September 2023 it moved its initial proposed date to 2035.

The good news is that in addition to the timeline being relaxed, the phase-out has now been reduced to 80% rather than the initial 100% complete ban on new LPG boilers, with the government announcement that it will never force anyone to rip out their existing boiler. So, the legislation will not affect people currently using an LPG boiler.

And whilst this is great news for households in the UK that rely on LPG to heat their homes, even better is that the government is now recognising there’s a demand from consumers for renewable gases such as BioLPG and rDME, both of which are chemically identical to traditional LPG. In addition, the LPG industry is committed to transitioning to 100% renewable sources by 2040.

These renewable gases are the future - they have the same qualities as traditional LPG and can be used in existing systems so no costly changes to existing heating systems will be needed, helping households in the transition to a greener, carbon-neutral future.
