Your Tank: Location and Installation
LP Gas is supplied and stored in liquid form, under pressure. The pressure in your storage tank varies from 30 to 120 pounds per square inch depending on how cold or hot the weather is.
Your tank is fitted with a pressure relief valve, which is set to release the gas after approximately twice the normal maximum pressure has been reached, but before any pressure damage could occur to the tank shell. This precaution is there in case there is a fire nearby.
To reduce the risk of fire:
- Position the tank 3 metres from a building, drain, property boundary or a fixed source of ignition e.g. a car or a garden shed (some exceptions may apply).
- Keep the area around the tank free of combustible materials e.g. leaves, rubbish, wood, etc
- The tank area must be well ventilated and not enclosed by walls or solid fences on any more than 2 sides.
These rules apply even after the tank has been installed. Please consult with our team on 01423 772789 if you intend making changes to the area e.g. erecting a shed, fence, etc. as these changes could make the installation illegal or unsafe.
