What to do in an emergency
It is unlikely you will have an emergency as LP Gas is one of the safest forms of fuel. However, it is better to make sure that, should such an event happen, you know how to respond and make it easier for anyone dealing with the emergency.
The Emergency Number is displayed on the tank and is the number to ring if a leak is detected outside of office hours (which are 8am to 5pm). Make sure it is easily readable, not obscured, or allowed to be defaced. A neighbour or the Emergency Services may need to call if you are unavailable.
If you smell a leak:
- Extinguish all ignition sources - cigarettes, garden bonfire, etc
- Evacuate everyone to upwind of the vapour cloud
- Turn off the gas supply at the tank or the shut off valve if it is safe to do so
- Call us on 01423 772789 (office hours) or 01904 618553 which is a 24 hour emergency line, this number is shown on your tank
- Open all doors and windows if the leak is in the house
- Do not switch ON or OFF any electrical switches
In the event of a fire, call 999 and ask for the Fire Brigade, and inform them that an LP Gas tank is on the premises.
